N-Butyl Alcohol, also known as 1-Butanol (IUPAC: Butan-1-ol), arises spontaneously as a minor product of fermentation of glucose and other carbohydrates. The liquid has a linear structure and is primarily alcohol. Its isomers are 2-butanol, tert-butanol and isobutanol. When referring to the straight-chain isomer, often the term butanol is being used. The molecular formula is C4H9OH.

N-Butyl Alcohol mostly appears in food and beverages and is being used in various consumer products. Moreover, in the United States, it is allowed to be used as an artificial flavour for cream, fruit, butter, ice cream, whiskey, candy, cordials, baked goods.
